The full story of the Winter X-Games

COREUPT.COM AT THE EUROPEAN X-GAMES TIGNES 2010

The adventure began well before the 10th of March for the CoreUPT.com staff. Work on the future CoreUPT.com stand took place on an unnamed building site somewhere near Lyon. Some of the staff spent a few days on site, bringing a personal touch to the 6 shipping containers, that were then transported to X-Fest village in Tignes for the first ever European X-Games.

The installation of the stand was nothing if not memorable! With the help of a 30 ton digger, the game was to carefully place and pile up said containers. Following that, various days were needed to set everything up on the inside and do the finishing touches (welding, electricity, waterproofing, staircase, decoration, stickers, installing the MINI Clubman…) All was finally finished around 2am Wednesday morning! Phew …

The finished CoreUPT.com stand boasted a presentation of the 2010/2011 ski collection, a CoreUPT.com video game specially created for the event in partnership with youriding.com, and a presentation area for the MINI Clubman. Also on show was Pull-In Underwear, another partner of ours.

The rest took care of itself. The riders arrived in good time (no plane delays this time) and managed to fit in various training sessions, both in the Valpark and on the X-Games features themselves.

And we all met up for a typically CoreUPT.com meal at the Couloir in Val Claret on Monday night (cheers Chris ;-) ).

During the X-Games, CoreUPT.com made a name for itself not only on the snow but on the after-hours scene. Thanks to a partnership with the Melting Pot, CoreUPT.com made this Tignes favourite its HQ throughout the event, and you were not shy in coming to party the nights away!

Between the various artists (Aya Waska, Urban Knights, Eliza Do Brazil…) and the premiere of Candide Kamera 2, we really got the place warmed up!

As far as the team goes, Canada was well represented by our 2 riders TJ SCHILLER and Justin DOREY, and all the Frenchies were in the house; Candide THOVEX, Adrien COIRIER, Richard PERMIN, Julien LANGE, Guerlain CHICHERIT,JL RATCHEL, Flo BASTIEN and Ben VALENTIN.

A special congratulations goes out to Julien LANGE for qualifying for his first X-Games. We wish him the best of luck for the future. We’re all with you Ju!

An equally BIG congrats to Justin DOREY for his 3rd place in the Superpipe, just behind the Frenchies Kevin Rolland (1st) and Xavier Bertoni (2nd).

A good performance was also put in by TJ SCHILLER who finished 4th in Slopestyle.

After missing his entry during the slopestyle qualifiers, our Tj Schiller has shown us that he wasn’t there to chill. He just kicked ass yesterday during the Big Air finals with sick runs and a trick coming out of nowhere : a double cork 1600 !!
What to say except THANK YOU TJ ??

2nd Dew Tour Ski Slopestyle Finals

Today was the last day of the Winter Dew Tour stop in Snow Basin, Utah. Today began at 8am with a short 1-hour practice before finals started. Everyone in finals was bringing their A game with very tech, stomped runs. Almost every athlete scoring in the 80’s or higher.

TJ was looking really good in the beginning of his first run but missed his pop on the switch double 900, landing on his head and side. The crash looked really bad and the medical staff were reluctant to even let him stand up. After clearing a neurological exam and tracking down a new helmet, TJ headed back to the top to do his second run. Although suffering from a concussion and a soar body, he managed to lay down the tricks he had planned for his first run and stomped it! The results for slope finals are as follows;

Tom Wallisch – 94.75
Andreas Hatveit – 93.63
Bobby Brown – 93.25
Sammy Carlson – 91.25
Jossi Wells – 87.38
Phil Casabon – 85.75
Elias Ambuhl – 84.25
Alexis Godbout – 84.20
Ian Cosco – 84.13
TJ Schiller – 84.00
Charles Gagnier – 83.00
McRae Williams – 81.00

Now that the second Dew Tour stop has finished up, TJ is going to be skiing at Park City for a few days shooting with Poorboyz, Chug, and Walker. Be sure to tune in for the updates about everything leading up to the X-Games.

Winder Dew Tour by Tj Schiller

Yesterday was the first day of practice for both slopestyle and halfpipe at the Snowbasin

Basin stop of the Winter Dew Tour. Slope practice began bright and early at 8:30 for the riders to have their first chance to inspect and take runs through the course. For the most part, the athletes were somewhat thrown off by the smaller features in comparison to the Breckenridge event. The course has a very tight layout consisting of two rail features up top straight into 3 jumps, and a final feature of either a canon box or a gap to a box in the back of a Toyota Tundra.

Although the course is much smaller than most of the athletes had anticipated, they seemed to be figuring it out by the end of the training session. There were barely any doubles being attempted in the course, although Jossi landed a couple smooth double 1260’s on the last jump.

Stay tuned for more news from each day of the Dew Tour in Snow Basin, Utah.

Dew Tour Ski Slopestyle Finals

After the superpipe finals with our rider, Justin D, at the 5th place, today was the time for the slopestyle finals in Breck.

After the last day qualifications, our only competing CoreUPT.com rider, TJ Schiller, had 2 perfect runs including 2 doubles offering him the 3rd place.

But today, it was an other story…

The weather was sunny but the wind was strong. That’s completely changed the speed for him but not only.

He didn’t land very well his 2 runs and took the 11th place at the end of the competition.

Waiting for the next Dew Tour stop in Utah with all the team..

Dew Tour Ski superpipe finals

Many of the finalists took some heavy spills tonight, as virtually all of them were going for broke in attempt to one up each other with a quiver of doubles, which nearly every competitor attempted. The slightly smaller size of Breckenridge’s pipe in comparison to the beast at Copper that everyone had been training on may very well have played a part, but nonetheless it was a truly epic night for pipe skiing, and got the ball rolling lightning fast for this winter’s competition circuit.

Justin Dorey placed fifth, putting down a technical mastermind of a run that included a double and flatspin 3’s both ways, but landed a touch sloppy near the bottom of the stunt ditch.

Results

1) Mike Riddle – 93.00
2) Jossi Wells – 91.50
3) Xavier Bertoni – 90.75
4) Kevin Rolland – 87.75
5) Justin Dorey – 82.50
6) Simon Dumont – 81.00
7) Matt Duhamel – 76.25
8) Banks Gilberti – 67.75
9) Dan Marion – 60.25
10) Matt Margetts – 50.25
11) Thomas Krief – 46.00
12) David Wise – 14.25

That’s all for tonight from Breckenridge, but don’t you move a muscle, as the first stop of the Winter Dew Tour continues and concludes today with Ski Slopestyle Finals from 10:30am – We will be hooking you up with a full update on everything that goes down in the slopestyle three-ring circus. It’s worth staying up for.
